چکیده

Semantic applications typically extract information from intermediate structures derived from sentences, such as dependency parse or semantic role labeling. In this paper, we study Open Information Extraction’s (Open IE) output as an additional intermediate structure and find that for tasks such as text comprehension, word similarity and word analogy it can be very effective. Specifically, for word analogy, Open IE-based embeddings surpass the state of the art. We suggest that semantic applications will likely benefit from adding Open IE format to their set of potential sentencelevel structures.

The Impact of L2 Semantic Tasks (L2 Collocation versus L2 Definition) on Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners’ Vocabulary Achievement

This study investigated the relationship between teaching L2 semantic tasks (collocation vs. definition) in vocabulary achievement of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. To this end, 60 students at intermediate level studying in the Simin Institute were selected from a total number of 100 participants based on their performance on Oxford Placement Test. After ensuring the criterion of homogeneit...

A New Method for Improving Computational Cost of Open Information Extraction Systems Using Log-Linear Model

Information extraction (IE) is a process of automatically providing a structured representation from an unstructured or semi-structured text. It is a long-standing challenge in natural language processing (NLP) which has been intensified by the increased volume of information and heterogeneity, and non-structured form of it. One of the core information extraction tasks is relation extraction wh...

Open Information Extraction Using Constraints over Part-of-speech Sequences

In 2010’s several exabytes of data are produced daily. Approximately between 1⁄5 and 1⁄3 of these data is text. To make use of such huge amounts of textual data, we need to be able to detect, to extract, to structure, and to process important information conveyed through this data flow in a fast and scalable manner. Open information extraction (Open IE) is a solution for detection, extraction, ...

The Effect of Open vs. Closed Tasks on Improving Iranian EFL Learners’ Oral Performance

Among the latest efficient approaches in language teaching, Task-based Language Teaching has turned up to be the main approach in a way that it is currently recognized as the leading teaching approach in language instruction (Ji & Pham, 2017). Using the proper tasks based on the proficiency level of the learners can facilitate the process of language learning. The present study aimed at...

Open Information Extraction Systems and Downstream Applications

Open Information Extraction (Open IE) extracts textual tuples comprising relation phrases and argument phrases from within a sentence, without requiring a pre-specified relation vocabulary. In this paper we first describe a decade of our progress on building Open IE extractors, which results in our latest extractor, OPENIE4, which is computationally efficient, outputs n-ary and nested relations...
